Isopentane, also known as 2-methylbutane, is simply CH3-CH(CH3)-CH2-CH3. Molecular weight 72.15. Colorless flammable liquid. It's scented. Melting point -159.9ºC, boiling point 27.8ºC, relative density 0.6201, refractive index 1.3537. Insoluble in water, slightly soluble in ethanol, soluble in hydrocarbon and ether.

It can be used as catalyst solvent in polyethylene production, foaming agent of combustible polystyrene, foaming agent of polyurethane foam system, deasphalting solvent, etc
